The team visited Morden Hall in March for an introductory talk about the '&lt;a href="http://nationaltrust-mordenhallpark.blogspot.com/"&gt;Heart of the Park&lt;/a&gt;' project, and attended a tour to gain an insight of all the renovation work taking place in the stable yard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As an architecture practice, we are always working towards building a more sustainable future, and therefore getting involved in projects like 'Heart of the Park', a scheme using natural and recycled materials, means that we are able to extend our&amp;nbsp;knowledge&amp;nbsp;on eco-friendly design.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One main feature of the projects, once built, is to provide a learning centre for visitors to find out about sustainable living and renewable energy. The building itself will be highly energy&amp;nbsp;efficient&amp;nbsp;with the use of &lt;a href="http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generate-your-own-energy/Solar-electricity"&gt;photovoltaic solar panels&lt;/a&gt; on the roof, as well as an air source heat pump, which will enable them to generate their own energy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The project will open in October 2011 and intends to reduce the use of fossil fuels for heat and&amp;nbsp;electricity by 50% by 2020. In addition to this, the project will be installing an &lt;a href="http://www.westernrenew.co.uk/wre/hydro_basics/machines/archimedes_screw_turbines"&gt;Archimedes screw turbine&lt;/a&gt; in the bank of the river to generate&amp;nbsp;electricity&amp;nbsp;for the stable yard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; clear: left; color: black; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"&gt;The aim of the project is to promote and implement sustainable renovation practices in the 19th century building. Some examples of energy saving techniques are various types of insulation, water harvesting, using water power to generate&amp;nbsp;electricity, solar panels to heat water and ceramic stoves to provide additional heating in public areas.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div class="separator" style="clear: both;
